We're Going GREEN!
The IMS Arizona Marathon has made a commitment to going green and will be making eco-friendly changes to improve our race this year and in the years to come in order to lessen our carbon footprint.
Changes include:
- Parking in one location and using green transportation to starting points
- Reusable timing chips
- Recycling bins for water bottles
- Using pace bicycles rather than pace vehicles
- Clothing dropped during race will be collected and given to shelters and homeless
Ways you can green-ify your running and race:
- Carpool, shuttle, or bike to event(s)and the gym
- During races, bring your trash to next aid station or drop at appropriate location
- Reuse water bottles or drop in recycling bins
- Even better, buy reusable bottles rather than plastic bottles
- Run along trails and paths when training (don’t be a trailblazer!)
- Donate your old and used running gear
- i.e. Nike has a Reuse-A-Shoe program, there is also Soles4Souls, Shoe4Africa, or One World Running
- Run and train outside rather than on a treadmill
- Use resources like craigslist.org to find used gear (i.e. bikes), rather than buying new
- Wash your clothes in cold water and hang dry, which will also improve their longevity
